Winter is here, and each day it gets colder and colder. Some people like to stay inside and drink hot cocoa in front of the fireplace or snuggle under the blanket. But what happens when you go outside? Say goodbye to your dewy skin and hello to dry and flaky skin. For some, this problem brought by winter can be worse resulting in eczema and cracked skin. So before it gets bad, here are some skin care tips that you can do this winter.
If oil is your enemy during summer, this winter, it will be your best friend. Make sure your skin stays moisturized. Instead of looking for moisturizers that are water-based, try oil-based products. Oil creates a protective layer on your skin keeping it hydrated. You should also apply moisturizing lotion (that's also oil-based) for your body.
Even though its winter, the rays of the sun can still damage your skin causing your skin to get even drier or worse, lead to skin cancer. Always apply and reapply your sunscreen (according to instructions) onto areas of the skin that are exposed.
Investing in a good humidifier will help your skin stay soft and hydrated this winter. Having the heat on for long periods can make the air inside the home dry. A humidifier will increase the moisture in your warm abode and prevent chapped lips and flaky skin.
- Warm Baths
Taking hot baths can be relaxing and a great way to combat the cold weather. However, they can do more harm than good. Hot water breaks down the lipid barriers of your skin resulting in flaking, cracking and drying of skin. Take a warm bath instead.
- Cover up
The easiest way to keep your skin protected and moisturized is to cover up. When you go outside wear a long sleeve shirt, coat or jacket, and gloves. The sun and wind exposure is not good for your skin.
